P.C. Review: Tales of Legendary Lust Aphrodisia.
I guess this one for May is late... Oops... Need to remember to do another for June soon... (I didn't want to babble, so this just became it's own...)
Tales of Legendary Lust: Aphrodisia. (Now on Steam!)
Here is one game I am deeply struggling to review. Crimson Delight is a nice developer, at least the person sadly, who is going to take the brunt of my criticism here. If they read this, please know… I hope you take it in stride to fix the issues. You all seem driven to make a fantasy epic that truly reminds me of Pathfinder without the city building jank of Pathfinder in a good way and because of this, I want you to do well. BUT, that is the thing with doing this, some people I earnestly like are going to do things I do not like and I have to say so…
Let’s get to the immediate good part of the game. Looking at this screenshot, I have seen mainstream games with worse art than this. The art is out of this fucking world and also within this screen shot, you see some chances at roleplay. Anything from flirty-ness and literally trying to fight this elven waifu. Her name is Meredith, by the way and she is amazing with a SMALL problem. Positives though… The sex scenes in this are also incredibly hot…
I was met with four flirting options. Meredith, the bartender above. An elf merchant and a blind seer who was made after the devs played Grandma’s House, I bet. (I joke, but between this game and Moonbox… y’all are about to rethinking things about GMILFs.)
The map movement is pretty good and the pieces gliding on the map gave me Pathfinder memories when you glide across a board to travel. However the house being solid, left some confusion as you see below, you have to push up on that inn to talk to people. Did I miss the tutorial on that?… Also, dog companions are the tits.
So what are the issues?
The Tutorials are long with no way to push forward for fast readers. I love this narrator’s voice, reminds me of Martin Sheen’s silky voice… Oh yeah. The voice acting is acting pretty good and this is from someone who keeps game sound OFF most of the time… In this inn, was the worst of interactions I had. A band of 5 off kilter ruffians of varying races and their male gnome leader who was pretending to have a harem with his 4 party members that were not interested at all… and they talked. too. much. When I was finally given a branch, I was given another 10 panel spam of banter. So I avoided this inn and the barracks to not be pushed to talk to more people… It reminds me of Pathfinder Kingmaker in a bad way. It had the same issue, but it was fixed with Wrath of the Righteous and I feel with time, Crimson Delight will fix it as well... As I said, even in the NEGATIVES you still know it was made with heart and effort. I want that crystal clear. A lot of hard work went into this, clearly!
Advice if you try this: There is a walkthrough within the files. Gently use it, because you only have a move and select option. I think there should be a non-spoilery in-game log. I also feel the coders are fighting RPGM not wanting it to be RPGM, by hiding the menus and desperately trying to avoid it when they could make a log within the RPGM menus naturally and not have that problem…
Finally one small nitpick, Meredith. Honey. You rock, but please stop making me feel bad for exploring all there is to offer within your gender. That said…
Summary: This game is gorgeous on the eyes, but it should probably embrace it being on RPGM and utilize some of it’s menu options to improve gameplay.
Overall, I look forward to seeing if Crimson Delight fixes the issues I discussed here moving forward. AGAIN, they seem like a hard working, passionate and devoted group of devs. The kind I like, plus this art is amazing.
I really feel this has a Pathfinder Kingmaker vibe where it feels like it has only up to go from here and with monthly updates (since I have been a Patron and will continue to do so, btw!) and a Steam release dropping, I am hoping to see ToLLA fulfill it’s promise of being a Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous hentai game that truly blows people away… but for now it’s got issues and growing pains it needs to fix… This promise nets a 8/10 for me and higher in the future if steps are taken to improve things… The best games like this allow for players to save scum and play their own way. Some even have embedded cheats. I hope CDG thinks about why Baldur’s Gate 3 was successful. You can do wild and insane things in that game.
You can even save anywhere on the map.
= Asia, a happy Patron of Crimson Delight Games and no that’s not sarcasm.
*Critical Success: r20: Persuasion* See, you know I am. Like dude, THAT ART!
(PS: I am gonna write a part 2 for NBA2k25 in a separate thing timed for later… My thoughts cant be contained briefly…)
